The YE system combines the higher strength of steel elements with the low weight and flexibility of plastic components and was based on requirements of construction machinery and lifting platforms. It needed to offer the maximum possible unsupported length with compact dimensions and the lowest possible weight. However, energy chains made entirely of steel are neither easy to assembly nor lightweight. The YE system uses no screws, rivets or bolts that could come loose during vibrations.
