Reliable rotating davit with salt water-resistant slewing ring bearings

The davit, installed inside the stern garage, consists of a vertical column and a horizontal axis on which a traveller can move the dinghy forwards and backwards. For the rotational movement of the column, which is attached to the floor and ceiling, the designers were looking for two suitable slewing ring ball bearings. They had to be resistant to regular contact with salt water and ideally light and quiet. The lower bearing must also be able to support axial load from the weight of the davit and dinghy and radial load from the offset weight.

The designers opted for PRT slewing ring bearings from igus®. Their special feature: The inner and outer ring do not run on metallic rollers or balls, but on radially and axially acting sliding elements made of tribologically optimised iglidur® plastic. Thanks to its incorporated solid lubricants, the rings glide quietly and with very low friction - without any external lubricants. This makes them resistant to corrosion and contamination, and there is no need for maintenance. innovative structural design is not only very satisfied with the performance of the bearing, but also with its "technical look", which blends in perfectly with the design of the davits and the garage.
