Compact and economical linear bearings for adjustment devices in body scanners

This body scanner for morphological diagnosis is based on adjustable drylin linear bearings.

The manufacturer's decision to rely on a drylin T linear guidance system for its medical body scanner had several reasons. The compact design and the ability to adjust the friction and clearance of the linear bearings were primarily decisive factors. Further advantages are the complete freedom from maintenance and lubrication and the associated lower costs.

Profile

  • What was needed: drylin T linear rail guides
  • Requirements: Compact linear bearings with flexibly adjustable clearance and friction
  • Industry: medical equipment
  • Success for the customer: In addition to the space savings and flexible adjustability, the manufacturer now also benefits from the fact that the systems are maintenance-free and reliable. This means they are completely lubrication-free and corrosion-free, saving the customer money in the long run.

Problem

The Italian Talamonti Group is a manufacturer of equipment for the medical and wellness industry. One focus of the company is the development and implementation of innovative products aimed at increasing human well-being.
Such is the case with the VUR 120 HS - a body-sized scanner that can make a morphological diagnosis of patients' lower extremities and pelvis. The device can then be used, e.g., before and after phlebological therapy - i.e. the treatment of vascular diseases - to evaluate developments and therapy success and to make diagnoses.
In addition, the scanner is also used in post-surgical rehabilitation, sports training and aesthetic medicine, as well as body remodelling programmes.
For several adjusters, movable linear systems should be found for this purpose that are as compact as possible and can be adjusted in clearance and friction.

Solution

The manufacturer found what he was looking for in our drylin T linear guide systems. The drylin T linear rail - which got its name because of its characteristic T-shape in cross section - deliberately relies on a sliding system instead of a recirculating ball bearing. This is achieved with the help of the completely self-lubricating and maintenance-free sliding elements made of polymer materials specially developed for this purpose. Easy handling and long service life thanks to optimised abrasion properties make the rails and carriages of the drylin series as user-friendly as possible. At the same time, the systems have been optimised for installation space in order to meet manufacturers' requirements for solutions that are not only stable and precise, but also space-saving. Finally, the rail itself is made of corrosion-free and robust hard-anodised aluminium and, together with the polymer gliding elements, represents the optimal gliding pair for smooth and quiet operation.
