Heavy loads, long operating times, a wide range of weather conditions - cranes in harbour facilities have to deliver top performance. And this is exactly where our energy chain and flexible cables are used. They have been proving their worth in more than 10,000 harbours for years thanks to their corrosion-resistant, maintenance-free materials and long service lives. Applications include ship-to-shore cranes, bulk handling cranes, RTGs, RMGs, Goliath cranes, spreaders and reach stackers. Where there is deadline pressure and safety must be guaranteed, e-chain® is a reliable, low-maintenance and quieter alternative to busbar systems, festoonig and motorised drums.
A P4.1 series roller energy chain is in operation at the port of Rotterdam, one of the largest handling ports for bulk goods in Western Europe. Despite 24/7 continuous operation and a travel distance of over 100 metres, it works without incident on the huge ship-to-shore crane and has completed over 9,000 operating hours to date.

For the high-speed trolley drive, a safe and failure-free roller energy chain was used for energy and data transmission.
To the application exampleThey are designed for the overhead movement of loads within a building, e.g. in production and assembly halls: Overhead cranes. Low downtimes, low maintenance requirements and the functional safety of the system are desirable from an economic point of view, but also with regard to occupational safety. Our energy supplies are developed for different operating conditions, but also for the various standards of the international markets. Always optimally designed, as a complete system or individual component and with a predictable service life.
In Thyssen Krupp's Duisburg hot rolling mill, a slab transport crane from BANG Kransysteme GmbH & Co KG is responsible for handling the slabs at the interface between the steelworks and rolling mill - in heat and dust. The energy and signal supply to the trolley and the cabin is ensured by "Heavy Duty"-energy chain from igus®, which were supplied as pre-assembled readychain® basic systems.

Shipyard cranes are usually characterised by their high load capacities and long travel distances of the trolleys, which can easily reach up to 200 m in length. With high cable weights, the energy chain must always work reliably and protect the guided cables. At the same time, compact and space-saving solutions are also required, especially in shipyards.
To meet these requirements, we offer our customers a comprehensive portfolio of heavy-duty energy chains, cables and guide troughs for long travel distances and high weights.
For this 900 tonne shipyard crane, the operator previously relied on a cable tender system to guide the cables to the trolleys. As the tension on the cables led to high maintenance requirements over time, the decision was made to replace it with an energy chain system. Since then, two heavy-duty roller energy chains from the 5050RHD series have been in use.

Three shipyard cranes are currently in operation at the southern harbour in the Pudong area of Shanghai. The energy and data supply to the gigantic lifting elements is realised via our plastic energy chain systems.
To the application exampleBulk goods cranes place extreme demands on cable solutions in many respects: While the transport routes for bulk goods can be several hundred metres long, all components must be able to withstand outdoor weather conditions all year round. However, the high dirt and dust load when transporting ore, sand or gravel, for example, also requires energy chains that are highly robust, corrosion-resistant, maintenance-free and have a long service life.
A lot of dust is created during the mining and subsequent storage of bauxite, which poses a major challenge, especially for the moving machine parts of the conveyor units. The operator therefore decided to use our plastic-energy chains. They have been reliably supplying conveyor units and stockpiling equipment with energy, data and media for several years now.

A robust e-loop® energy supply system is used for the safe and low-maintenance energy supply to the spreader of this bucket wheel excavator for mining chalk.
To the application exampleCrane systems and cable guides used outdoors must be protected from harsh environmental conditions in particular. High resistance to corrosion, strong wind and abrasion of the often unprotected energy supply guarantee a long service life and continuous planning reliability in daily operation.

This crane trolley on a retreaded crane girder travels outdoors. The bearing of the running wheels should therefore be as maintenance-free and weather-resistant as possible.
